WLC Splits Final Regular Season Matches At Home

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team defeated UW-Superior and then was upended by Concordia Chicago Saturday at the Warrior Invitational inside the Recreation Complex. Sophomore Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Warriors finished their regular season with a 17-12 record.

  • Final Scores: Wisconsin Lutheran 3, UW-Superior 2 (22-25, 22-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-10); Concordia Chicago 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (25-18, 25-12, 24-26, 25-16)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (17-12), UW-Superior (14-18), Concordia Chicago (14-18)

  • In Wisconsin Lutheran's opening match, the first set featured back-and-forth play until the Warriors jumped out to a 10-6 lead. The Yellow Jackets tied the score at 12-12. After four more lead changes, UWS took the lead for good, winning the set 25-22.
  • UW-Superior jumped out to an early 8-4 lead in the second set and saw it increase to nine points at 15-6. The Warriors went on a run of their own, cutting the Yellow Jackets' lead to just one at 20-19. UW-Superior closed out the set with the 25-22 victory.
  • The third set featured 12 ties as neither team held more than a three-point lead. The score was tied at 23-23 when WLC netted two points giving itself the third set victory.
  • The Warriors came out hot in the fourth set as they jumped out to leads of 13-7 and 17-11 before winning the set 25-17.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran also came out hot in the fifth set leading 10-3. The Yellow Jackets fought back, but it wouldn't be enough as WLC took the fifth set 15-10 and won the match.
  • The Warriors posted a match-high .280 hitting percentage in the final set of the match.
  • In WLC's second match of the day, Concordia Chicago took a 16-6 lead. WLC was able to cut it in half at 16-11, but the Cougars ended up taking the set 25-18.
  • The second set featured back-and-forth play until CUC grabbed a 16-10 lead. Concordia Chicago then went on a 9-2 run to finish the set.
  • In set three, WLC fought to take a 13-8 lead. The Cougars battled back and tied the set up at 17-17, before taking a lead of their own at 20-17. After more back-and-forth play the score stood tied at 24-24, before the Warriors took the final two points ending the set with a 26-24 victory.
  • The fourth set featured four early lead changes before the Cougars took a 14-11 lead. CUC didn't look back, taking the match 25-16 on a 11-5 run.

  • Sophomores Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) and Raasch led the Warriors with 13 and 12 kills respectively in the Warriors' victory over the Yellow Jackets. Sophomore Michelle Haling (Antioch, Ill.) dished out a match-high 28 assists and sophomore Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) had a trio of service aces.
  • Freshman Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) led WLC in digs with 27. Junior Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) recorded seven block assists.
  • Freshman Marisa Shevey (Muskego, Wis.) led the Warriors with 13 kills in the match against Concordia Chicago. Sophomore Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) and Haling passed out 16 and 11 assists respectively.
  • Senior Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) had 15 digs and sophomore Jordan Weide (New Berlin, Wis.) added five block assists to pace WLC

  • Cami Sletta had 14 kills, Gina Baertsch registered 26 assists, and Yana Carrera dished out a match-high 36 assists for the Yellow Jackets.
  • Jennifer Livesay led Concordia Chicago with 10 kills in the latter match. Alex Clasen dished out 28 assists and Livesay had 11 digs for a double-double.

  • The Warriors travel to River Forest, Illinois to face fourth-seeded Dominican (22-6) in the first round of the NACC Tournament on Tuesday, November 5. Live stats and video will be available at WLCSports.com.
