Warriors Serve Up Senior Night Sweep Over Raiders

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team tied a season high with 12 service aces en route to a 3-0 sweep over cross-town conference foe MSOE Friday night on Senior Night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors, who honored their only senior Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.), improved their record to 5-0 on their homecourt with the win.

  • The Warriors jumped out to a 6-2 lead over the Raiders in the opening set, as they set the tone early and never trailed the rest of the night. The visitors closed to within two points at 8-6, but with WLC leading 12-10, the hosts went on a 10-2 run to surge ahead by 10 points and win the set 25-14.
  • WLC jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and never trailed despite MSOE tying the match at 8-8. The Green and White then used a 5-1 run to go ahead 13-9 and later scored the final four points of the set for a 25-17 win. The Warriors hit a match-high .417 in the set behind 15 kills.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran sprinted out to a 6-1 lead in the third set, and after MSOE closed to within 12-9, the Warriors scored five straight for a 17-9 lead. The hosts held a 22-13 advantage but the Raiders didn't go away easily as they came within 24-21 before WLC won the set and match 25-21.

  • Sophomore Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.) led the Warriors with a match-best nine kills and .400 hitting. She also added five total blocks. Junior Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomore Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) added six kills each.
  • Heuer and sophomore Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) had three service aces as WLC tied a season high with 12 as a team.
  • Johnson also led the team with 14 assists, while freshman Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) added 12.
  • Freshman Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) collected a match-high nine digs.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran hit .263 for the match on 35 kills.

  • The Raiders, who were held to -.054 hitting, were led by Quinn Borchert's five kills. Allie Laurent added 10 assists and five digs.

  • The Warriors face a quick turnaround tomorrow when they host Dominican (20-6, 7-3 NACC) for a crucial conference match starting at 12:00 p.m. inside the Recreation Complex.
