Warriors Drop First Conference Match At Aurora

AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team suffered a tough NACC sweep Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 3-0 decision to the Aurora Spartans inside Thornton Gymnasium. It was the Warriors' first conference loss of the season.

  • Final Score: Aurora 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-23)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (11-9, 5-1 NACC), Aurora (14-8, 5-1 NACC)

  • After a back-and-forth contest, the Spartans went on an 11-1 run en route to their opening-set victory.
  • In set two, the Warriors were able to take an early 9-8 lead, but host Aurora used a 6-0 run to take control and win the second set.
  • The Warriors led by five, 20-15, late in the third set. However, the Spartans used a 5-0 run to tie the set before claiming the set victory and sweep over the Warriors.

  • Sophomore Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) led the Warriors with 10 kills, while junior Grace Tomhave (Lake Mills, Wis.) added seven.
  • Freshman Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) collected 21 of her team's 27 assists.
  • Sophomore Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) had 17 digs to lead WLC and freshman Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 16 digs.

  • Sydnei Avery led Aurora with 15 kills and Miranda Cada had 32 assists. Julia Wood posted a match-high with 25 digs.

  • The Warriors return to action Friday when they travel to Chicago to face Illinois Tech (5-14, 2-5 NACC). The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. Live stats and video will be available for the match at WLCSports.com.
