Warriors Sweep Vikings For Season’s First Win In Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team picked up its first victory of the 2019 season against Lawrence after dropping its first match of the day against UW-Stout Friday at the Pizza Hut Classic hosted by UW-Oshkosh at the Kolf Sports Center.

  • Final Scores: UW-Stout 3, Wisconsin Lutheran 1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-19, 25-19); Wisconsin Lutheran 3, Lawrence 0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-18)
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (1-4), UW-Stout (5-0), Lawrence (1-6)

  • In their first match against UW-Stout, the Warriors had a match-high 15 kills that led to a 25-22 set one victory.
  • The Blue Devils responded in the second set, capitalizing on 10 WLC errors and taking the set 25-20.
  • Stout went on to win the next two sets by identical scores of 25-19 and 25-19.
  • In match two against Lawrence, the Warriors once again won the opening set by a score of 25-17.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran kept its momentum heading into set two, defeating the Vikings 25-13.
  • WLC was able to complete the three-set sweep, 25-18, behind a match high 18 kills.

  • Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) and Grace Tomhave (Lake Mills, Wis.) led the Warriors with nine kills apiece in match one, while Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) added 20 assists and Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) had 18 digs.
  • Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) had 10 kills to pace WLC vs. the Vikings, while Jenna Schomburg (Brillion, Wis.) added nine. Sarles dished out 21 assists and Goba had 12 digs.

  • Amber Ripley and Lydia Kneubuehl led the Blue Devils with 10 kills each, Jessica DuVal had 22 assists, and Steph Cannon had 22 digs.
  • Caitlin Chambers and Jordan Adamson had four kills apiece for the Vikings. Averie Miller led LU with 10 assists and Laurice Lavajo had 14 digs.

  • The Warriors resume action Saturday when they play host UW-Oshkosh (3-2) at 9:30 a.m. and then Carroll (3-3) at 11:30 a.m. at the Pizza Hut Classic in Oshkosh. Live video will be available for the first match at WLCSports.com.
