Women's Volleyball Falls To Bluffton In Season Opener

HOLLAND, Mich. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team dropped a tough four-set match to the Bluffton Beavers Friday night at the DeVos Fieldhouse in their season-opening Inspire Hope Tournament. The Warriors, who hit .312 for the match, were led by junior Grace Tomhave's (Lake Mills, Wis.) 14 kills and .538 hitting percentage.

  • The Beavers won a tightly-contested opening set which featured 12 ties by a score of 25-23. The Warriors had a lead no larger than two points and trailed 19-15 before knotting the set at 20-20, but BU held on for the two-point win.
  • WLC hit a team-best .367 in the second set and held a 17-14 lead before Bluffton scored six straight. After the Green and White evened the score at 21-21, the Beavers again scored the next two and won the set 25-23.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set and led 23-10 before winning going away for a 25-14 triumph.
  • The Warriors once again started fast with a 6-0 lead in the fourth set, before Bluffton evened the score at 11-11. WLC trailed 19-16 but rattled off four straight for a 20-19 lead. Following three ties, the Beavers came away with a 25-22 win to take the match.

  • Tomhave and sophomore Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) led the Warriors with 14 kills each, while freshman Jenna Charron (Appleton, Wis.) added 10 in her first collegiate match. Heuer contributed 10 assists for a double-double and Tomhave added four block assists.
  • Freshman Emily Sarles (Lombard, Ill.) collected a team-high 12 assists and four service aces in her first collegiate match and freshman Ally Goba (Mukwonago, Wis.) tallied 16 digs.

  • Remi Bower led three Beavers in double-digit kills with 17. Elle Price collected 30 assists and Brooke Kleman added 18 digs. Bluffton hit .304 for the match and tallied 11 more kills than the Warriors.

  • The Warriors are back in action tomorrow for two more matches at the Inspire Hope Tournament against Wartburg (0-0) and No. 21 Hope (0-0) at 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. Live stats and video will be available for both matches at WLCSports.com.
