MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College senior Britley Grulke (Hustisford, Wis.) and freshman Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) have been named Second Team All-Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, it was announced Thursday as the awards for the 2018 women's volleyball season were released by the conference. In addition, freshman Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) was named NACC Honorable Mention.
Grulke, who was named First Team All-NACC in 2015 and 2017 and Second Team All-NACC in 2016, led WLC with 2.35 kills per set and was second on the team at 3.05 digs per set. Starting 29 matches, the senior led the Warriors with 35 service aces. Grulke tallied 10 double-doubles and registered a season-high 20 kills and 19 digs September 1 at Lakeland. She concludes her career for the Green and White ranking fourth all-time in kills (1,156) and fifth in digs (1,202).
Johnson led the Warriors with 938 assists, an average of 8.77 assists per set, good for fourth in the conference. The freshman also averaged 2.35 digs per set, ranking fifth on the team. Starting 29 matches, Johnson recorded a team-high 12 double-doubles and tied a program record with 54 assists September 20 at Maranatha. Her 938 assists is good for sixth in a season in program history.
Pye tallied 227 kills, averaging 2.16 kills per set, both good for second on the team. The freshman also registered 312 digs and 2.97 digs per set. Pye started 28 matches and posted 11 double-doubles, including a season-high 18 kills and 24 digs September 20 in a 3-2 win over Maranatha.
Aurora's Katie Vondra was named the league's Player of the Year, while Dominican's Megan Parker and Gabija Sinickaite were named Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively. Aurora head coach James Seitelman was named NACC Coach of the Year.
Wisconsin Lutheran concluded its 2018 season 18-12 overall and 7-5 in the NACC. The 18 wins along with seven conference victories are the most since 2011 and its consecutive conference tournament appearances were the first since 2012-2013.
