Warriors Fall To Raiders In Regular Season Finale

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team concluded its regular season slate with a 3-1 defeat against cross-town foe MSOE Saturday afternoon in non-conference action inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors finished the inaugural five-team Warrior Invitational with a 2-1 record and Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

  • The Warriors had an early advantage in the first set before the Raiders rattled off a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 lead.
  • After a back-and-forth run, Wisconsin Lutheran broke the set open with a 9-2 run to take a 19-13 lead in the first set. WLC hit a match-high .192 in the first set en route to a 25-18 victory.
  • After a slow start in the second set, Wisconsin Lutheran used a 5-0 run to knot the score at 9-9 following three MSOE errors and a service ace from Adreanna Johnson (Cumberland, Wis.).
  • With the score tied at 10-10, MSOE went on a quick 7-1 burst to hold a 17-11 advantage.
  • The hosts battled back to close the gap to 20-18, but the Raiders scored five of the final seven points as they evened the match with a 25-20 second set victory.
  • MSOE opened up the third set on fire, forcing WLC to take a timeout facing an 11-4 deficit.
  • The Warriors stormed back and trimmed the Raiders' lead to 13-10 and later took their first lead of the set at 18-17 and added another point off a Stevie Nowak (Milwaukee, Wis.) kill to make it 19-17.
  • WLC fought off the first set point with a Heuer kill to even the score at 24-24.
  • MSOE rattled off three straight points to take a 2-1 lead after a 27-25 set victory. The Raiders shot an impressive .300 in the set and capitalized on seven WLC errors.
  • A back-and-forth affair in the fourth set saw MSOE hold a slim 15-14 lead before a short 4-1 lead pushed their advantage to 19-15.
  • The Warriors battled back to take their first lead at 21-20 and a kill from Natalie Lendt (Watertown, S.D.) and an ace from Johnson gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 23-20 advantage.
  • Facing set point, MSOE scored the final four points of the match as it closed the final set, 26-24.

  • Abby Hackbarth (Lake Mills, Wis.) led the Warriors with 12 kills and hit a team-high .364, while adding seven digs.
  • Michelle Haling (Antioch, Ill.) recorded 35 of the team's 38 assists and tied for a team-high with 11 digs. Alea Lehr (Boulder City, Nev.) also had 11 digs in the contest.
  • Following the invite, Heuer was named to the All-Tournament Team as voted on by the coaches.

  • Megan Brock (13 kills, 10 digs) and Maxine Miller (15 assists, 10 digs) each recorded double-doubles for the Raiders. Erin Winter distributed 19 assists and Bekah Smith had 15 digs.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran returns to the NACC Tournament for the second straight season as the sixth seed and will travel to third-seeded Dominican (19-9, 9-3 NACC) for a first round matchup Tuesday night.
