Warriors Clipped By Falcons In NACC Finale

MEQUON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team was defeated 3-1 by Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference rival Concordia Wisconsin Wednesday night inside the R. John Buuck Fieldhouse. The sixth-seeded Warriors will open NACC Tournament play next Tuesday at third-seeded Dominican.

  • The Falcons jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the opening set, but the Warriors battled back to cut their deficit to just one at 9-8. Five straight points from Concordia Wisconsin pushed its lead to 14-8, but Wisconsin Lutheran came back again and trailed by just three at 16-13. Another six-point streak from CUW extended its lead to 22-13 as the hosts won the opener, 25-14.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran had a 5-4 lead in the second set before Concordia Wisconsin ran off five straight for a 9-5 lead. After WLC scored three in a row to come within one, CUW used separate scoring runs of 4-0 and 5-0 to push its lead to 11 and win the set, 25-12.
  • The Green and White never trailed in the third set as a five-point spurt gave them a 10-4 lead. The Falcons came within two at 16-14, but the Warriors answered with three straight and later closed the set by scoring the final four points for a 25-18 set three win.
  • WLC scored the first four points of the fourth set and led 10-4 before an 8-1 run by CUW gave the hosts their first lead of the set. After the visitors knotted the set at 12-12, a 5-1 scoring spurt gave the Falcons a 17-13 lead. The Warriors came within one at 23-22, but Concordia Wisconsin scored the final two for the 25-22 set and match victory.

  • Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) paced the Warriors with 10 kills and 13 digs for her 11th double-double of the year. Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) added 25 assists and nine digs, while Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) served up four aces. Defensively, Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.) collected 17 digs and Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) led the way with six of her team's 22 block assists.
  • Grace Tomhave (Lake Mills, Wis.) and Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.) added five block assists each.
  • The Warriors were limited to .050 hitting for the match, their fifth straight being held under .200.

  • Megan Mayer (14 kills, 19 digs) and Madelyn Alton (10 kills, 15 digs) each posted double-doubles to lead the Falcons. Haley Sedo and Mackenzie Wockenfus dished out 25 and 21 assists, respectively. CUW also amassed 22 block assists, led by five from Kelsey Kleba.

  • Before beginning conference tournament play next week, Wisconsin Lutheran will play its final three regular season matches at home when its hosts the Warrior Invitational Friday and Saturday. WLC will face Central (11-17) and Maranatha (15-10) at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday, respectively.
