Warriors Rebound Over Raiders, Punch NACC Tourney Ticket

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - After dropping the opening set, the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team rattled off three straight set victories en route to a 3-1 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win over cross-town foe MSOE Friday night inside Hotchkin Arena. With the win, the Warriors clinched their second straight NACC Tournament appearance. WLC also won its seventh conference match, its most since 2011, after dropping consecutive matches for the first time since September 1.

  • The Warriors got off to a slow start in the opening set as they trailed 7-1 before looking up at a 10-2 deficit. WLC couldn't get any close than seven points the rest of the set as it dropped the opener 25-14. The visitors were held to just .054 hitting in the first set.
  • A back-and-forth second set featured 10 ties and saw the Raiders erase a 10-8 deficit and pull ahead for a 20-14 lead. The Green and White battled back and still trailed 23-19 before closing the second set on an 8-2 run for a 27-25 win to even the match.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran trailed by three points early in the third set, but took control midway through and never relinquished the lead. With the set tied 8-8, WLC scored six of the next seven and never saw its lead drop below four points. The Warriors led by as many as six as the third set ended with a 25-19 score. WLC hit a team-best .250 in the third set with 14 kills.
  • WLC was looking up at a slim deficit early in the fourth set, but scored 10 of the next 13 points, including six in a row for a 14-9 lead. The Raiders cut that deficit to two, but a pair of three-point rallies helped propel the Warriors to a 25-18 win in the fourth set for the victory.

  • Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill.) and Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) each posted double-doubles to pace the Warriors. Pye recorded a match-high 15 kills and 14 digs, while Johnson dished out a match-best 39 assists to go along with 10 digs.
  • Carly Heuer (Germantown, Wis.) added a season-high 14 kills in addition to eight digs and three service aces.
  • Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.), Britley Grulke (Hustisford, Wis.), and Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) added 18, 11, and 10 digs, respectively.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran clinched its second straight NACC Tournament berth under second-year head coach Jenilee Voss.
  • The Warriors ran their season win total to 16 with seven conference wins, their most for both since the 2011 season.

  • Hannah Pekarek led the Raiders with a double-double of 10 kills and 14 digs. Allie Laurent added 34 assists.
