Warriors Sweep Scarlet Hawks On Senior Night

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team secured its ninth sweep of the season Friday by virtue of a 3-0 win over NACC newcomer Illinois Tech inside the Recreation Complex on Senior Night. The win moved the Warriors' record to 6-1 in conference play with five league matches remaining.

  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (15-6, 6-1 NACC), Illinois Tech (3-14, 1-7 NACC)

  • The Warriors jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and led 12-3 before the Scarlet Hawks scored their first consecutive points of the set. Wisconsin Lutheran blitzed ahead for a 21-6 advantage before IIT rattled off six straight points. WLC finished off the first set with a 25-16 victory.
  • Illinois Tech scored the first three points of the second set and led 8-6 before the Warriors tallied four straight points for a lead they would never relinquish. WLC led 17-12 before pulling away for a 25-17 victory in set two.
  • Neither team could gain an advantage in a back-and-forth third set as it featured several ties and lead changes. Wisconsin Lutheran never led by more than two points and trailed 21-19 before tying the match up three times and then netting the final three points for the 25-23 win and match victory.

  • Abby Raasch (Stillwater, Minn.) hit an impressive .478 with 13 kills on 23 attacks to lead the Warriors attack.
  • Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.) collected 33 of her team's 40 assists, while adding 12 digs for a double-double. Britley Grulke (Hustisford, Wis.) paced four players in double-digit digs with 17. Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) tallied four block assists to defend the net.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran hit at least .213 for the eighth time in its last 10 matches.
  • The win marked the Warriors ninth 3-0 triumph of the year.
  • WLC honored its two seniors, Grulke and Alysha Kahlow (Fond du Lac, Wis.), following the conclusion of the match.

  • Taylor Burton and Alyssa Miner collected seven kills each to lead the Scarlet Hawks. Courtney Darling dished out 21 assists and Courtney Curcio recorded 18 digs. IIT was held to .082 hitting for the match.
