Warriors Sink Buccaneers In Straight Sets

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's volleyball team earned its sixth straight win Tuesday night inside the Recreation Complex, defeating the visiting Beloit Buccaneers in straight sets. The Warriors held the visitors to just .057 hitting in the contest, including -.030 in the second set.

  • WLC came out strong in the opening stages of the first set, using a 6-0 spurt to take an early lead, powered by consecutive kills from Mercedes Pye (Zion, Ill).
  • The Warriors pushed their lead to 10-1 after two straight kills from Alysha Kahlow (Fond du Lac, Wis.), forcing the Buccaneers into a timeout.
  • Beloit used a five-point swing to cut the WLC lead to 20-12, then another five-point run to cut the lead to 24-20, but the hosts were able to close out the first set, 25-20.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran jumped out to a 5-0 lead in set two, led by strong serving from Cassidy Johnson (Germantown, Wis.).
  • The Buccaneers battled back and tied the contest at 14-14, forcing WLC to take a timeout.
  • The Warriors rallied and closed out game two on an 11-2 run, taking game two 25-16.
  • In the third set, the two teams traded points, with the hosts holding a 9-7 lead.
  • Back-to-back kills from Kahlow extended the hosts lead to 14-11, then Pye added two straight kills of her own to push the WLC lead to 16-11.
  • The Warriors closed out the third set on a 9-3 run to take the third set 25-14 and the match 3-0.

  • Pye led the offensive attack for WLC, tallying 12 kills and seven digs while hitting .357.
  • Kahlow and Alyssa Charron (Appleton, Wis.) added eight kills apiece, with Charron hitting .263 for the match.
  • Dayton Pye (Zion, Ill.) led the Warriors with 15 digs, while Johnson dished out 36 assists.
  • WLC hit .235 for the contest and registered six blocks.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won for the sixth straight time, its longest winning streak since 2011.

  • Amanda Baran led Beloit with nine kills while Paige Wimbrow totaled 14 assists.
  • Payton Carlock registered 12 digs for the Buccaneers, who were held to .057 hitting.
