Women's Tennis Tops Alverno, 7-2

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team picked up a 7-2 win over Alverno Tuesday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Rainbow Park. It was the Warriors' fifth straight win over the Inferno.

  • The Warriors grabbed a 2-1 lead after doubles play via an 8-0 win at No. 2 from Hannah Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Reebee Ratkowski (Waterford, Wis.) and a win by default at No. 3 from Amanda Las (Bangor, Wis.) and Madeleine Steber (Green Bay, Wis.).
  • WLC claimed five wins in singles play, including a trio of sweeps to secure the win. Gerbing was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 2, while Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.), Ratkowski, and Steber all picked up 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 3, No. 4, and No. 6. Las was leading 6-0, 1-0 at No. 5 before her opponent retired.

  • Las won her team-leading fifth singles match of the season at No. 5.
  • Akella, Las, and Steber each improved their NACC singles records to 3-2.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won its fifth straight match over Alverno.

  • Michelle Alexander picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles for Alverno. Alexander and Kalei Hannah earned an 8-7 win at No. 1 doubles.

  • The Warriors are back on the road Saturday for two NACC dual matches against Concordia Wisconsin (7-1, 5-0 NACC) and Marian (3-3, 3-2 NACC). WLC and CUW will face off at 10:00 a.m., before the Warriors and Sabres square off at 2:00 p.m.
