Warriors Sweep Buccaneers In Non-Conference Tune-Up

GREENFIELD, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team earned a 9-0 sweep over the visiting Beloit Buccaneers Saturday afternoon in its final non-conference match at Whitnall High School. The Warriors, who earned the sixth seed in the NACC Tournament, will face off against third-seeded Illinois Tech April 30 in Chicago in the first round of the NACC Tournament.

  • The Warriors opened the match by sweeping through doubles play, with Amanda Wietrzny (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Hannah Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) earning an 8-3 win at the No. 1 doubles position. Katarina Volkmann (Slinger, Wis.) and Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.) collected an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles slot.
  • Wietrzny earned a 6-3, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles position, while Gerbing tallied a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 doubles slot.
  • At the third singles position, Reebee Ratkowski (Waterford, Wis.) won 6-0, 6-1 and Volkmann won 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 4 singles positon.
  • Beloit defaulted the final two singles matches to give WLC the 9-0 sweep, its third of the season.

  • Gerbing tied the team lead with seven singles victories on the season, while Gerbing and Wietrzny collected their eighth win at the top doubles spot.
  • The Warriors won their ninth straight match over Beloit.

  • The sixth-seeded Warriors begin NACC Tournament play April 30 when they travel to Chicago to take on third-seeded Illinois Tech. The Scarlet Hawks (15-6, 8-2 NACC) fell to Illinois-Chicago 6-1 Wednesday. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at XS Tennis Center in Chicago.
