Warriors Sweep Stars, Cougars In Saturday Road Tilts

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team collected a pair of 9-0 sweeps over Dominican and Concordia Chicago Saturday on the road to even its overall record at 6-6 and move a match shy of .500 in conference play with one contest remaining.

  • The Warriors swept through doubles play with ease over the Stars, as Amanda Wietrzny (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Hannah Gerbing (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Reebee Ratkowski (Waterford, Wis.) and Sandhya Akella (Carmel, Ind.) won 8-0 at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, respectively. Natalee Douangvilay (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Amanda Las (Bangor, Wis.) were also 8-1 winners at No. 3.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won in straight sets at all six singles flights, as Dominican didn't win more than two games in any set. Wietrzny (No. 1), Ratkowski (No. 3), and Las (No. 6) were all 6-0, 6-0 winners. Gerbing (No. 2), Akella (No. 4), and Douangvilay (No. 5) also won handily to complete the sweep.
  • WLC carried its momentum into the afternoon by sweeping all nine matches from the Cougars. Wietrzny and Gerbing set the tone at No. 1 with an 8-0 doubles win. Akella and Douangvilay and Las and Jessica Nader (Albuquerque, N.M.) collected 8-4 and 8-5 wins to cap doubles action, respectively.
  • The Warriors didn't lose more than one game in three singles flights as Wietrzny (No. 1), Gerbing (No. 2), and Douangvilay (No. 4) took care of business. Akella (6-0, 6-3), Las (6-2, 6-4), and Nader (3-6, 6-4, 10-2) also were victorious in singles play for WLC.

  • Las won her team-leading seventh singles match of the year, while Nader picked up her first collegiate singles and doubles wins. Douangvilay also notched her first two doubles wins of the year.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won its fourth straight over Dominican and its eighth straight over Concordia Chicago.

  • The Warriors play their final regular season match of the fall season Monday against Lakeland (5-5, 4-3 NACC) at 4:00 p.m. at the Princeton Club in New Berlin. The contest is a reschedule from September 19.
