AURORA, Ill. - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's tennis team dropped a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference dual matches against Benedictine and Aurora on the road Saturday by identical scores of 7-2. The losses drop the Warriors to 2-5 overall and 1-5 in the NACC.
The Eagles (5-2, 5-2 NACC) opened the first match of the morning by sweeping all three doubles matches from WLC. Bethany Soderlund (De Pere, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and Kayln Geddes (Bend, Ore./Luther Preparatory) dropped a close 9-7 decision at No. 2. All singles matches were determined in straight sets and the Warriors picked up wins at No. 4 as Soderlund claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win, and Emily Boyd (Lebanon, Wis./Luther Preparatory) was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at No. 6.
The Warriors also fell short in their second match of the day against Aurora (4-4, 4-2 NACC). AU won all three doubles matches, but WLC didn't go down without a fight as Kendall Bonnin (Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) and Paige Potaracke (La Crosse, Wis./Onalaska Luther) dropped an 8-6 decision at No. 1. Amanda Pearson (Prairie du Sac, Wis./Luther Preparatory) and Tabitha Schultz (Spokane, Wash./Luther Preparatory) were narrowly defeated 9-8 at No. 3. In singles action, Potaracke (2-6, 7-5, 10-7) and Pearson (3-6, 6-4, 10-8) each squeaked out three-set victories at No. 1 and No. 4.
WLC returns to the court Tuesday when it hosts Lakeland (1-4, 0-4 NACC) for a 6:30 p.m. match at Hart Park. This will be the first of four straight home matches to close out the fall season for the Warriors.
