Early Goal Stands Up As Warriors Fall To CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team was unable to overcome an early 1-0 deficit, as the host Concordia Chicago Cougars held on for the one-goal win over the Warriors on Saturday afternoon at Concordia Stadium.

  • Final Score: Concordia Chicago 1, Wisconsin Lutheran 0
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (4-11-0, 3-6-0 NACC), Concordia Chicago (5-9-2, 5-3-1 NACC)
  • Location: Concordia Stadium, River Forest, Ill.

  • The Cougars found the back of the net just over 15 minutes into the first half as Gabriella Wagoner scored in the upper left of the goal. Samantha Wozniak was credited with the assist.
  • The remainder of the half remained 1-0 in favor of CUC, as Warriors freshman goalkeeper Kayla Pagel (Kenosha, Wis.) stopped eight of the nine shots she faced.
  • Neither team scored in the second half, as Pagel stopped five more shots. The Warriors placed two shots on goal as they looked to even the score, but the Cougars kept WLC from tying it up and held on for the 1-0 win.

  • The Warriors attempted two shots, both ending on frame. Sophomore Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) and junior Kendra Schumacher (Little Chute, Wis.) had one shot apiece for the Warriors.
  • Pagel finished with 13 saves on 14 shots faced, her second consecutive game with double-digit saves and fifth straight with at least seven stops.

  • Concordia Chicago launched 20 shots, and 14 finished on frame. Four Cougars had three shots, while Wagoner and Wozniak led the team with three shots on goal.
  • Aleksia Vranjes and Kassie Silenzi combined to keep the Warriors off the board, with Silenzi recording both saves in the second half.
