Women's Soccer's Win Streak Snapped At Aurora

MONTGOMERY, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team traveled to Aurora Wednesday evening for a NACC match against the host Spartans. Aurora raced out to an early lead and never looked back, defeating the Warriors 9-0 at Spartan Athletic Park snapping their three-game winning streak.

  • The Spartans got on the scoreboard early, netting a goal just over two minutes into the game. Jessica Ortiz launched a shot from 20 yards out that beat the keeper to the upper left corner of the goal.
  • Aurora scored once more before halftime, as Corina Leyva scored in the 14th minute from 10 yards out.
  • AU found success quickly and often in the second half as it raced out to a larger lead. Emma Aguilar and Leyva scored just a minute apart to make the score 4-0. Jacklyn Cabrera added a goal on a penalty shot five minutes later to pad the lead.
  • The Spartans scored three more times before the end of the game, as Carly Cast, Jasmine Ascencio, and Alexis Eggen each scored their second goals of the season and extend the final margin to nine.

  • The Warriors finished with three shots and junior Kendra Schumacher (Little Chute, Wis.) and freshman Katelyn Bonilla (Fond du Lac, Wis.) each had a shot on target.
  • Freshman Kayla Pagel (Kenosha Wis.) and junior Grace Asplin (Excelsior, Minn.) split time in net, and they combined for 13 saves. Pagel recorded 10 saves, while Asplin added three of her own.

  • The Spartans launched 33 shots, including 22 shots on goal. Leyva paced the team with seven shots, and tied with Aguilar for the team lead in shots on target with three.
  • Kelsey Deck and Julia Peters combined for the shutout, with Deck making both saves for Aurora.

  • The Warriors return to the pitch Saturday afternoon when they host Illinois Tech (6-5-2, 3-1-2 NACC) at 3:30 p.m. The Scarlet Hawks blanked Rockford today, 10-0. Live video will be available for the contest at WLCSports.com.
