Warriors Dampen Inferno Behind 10-Goal Outburst

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The rainy conditions sure didn't slow down the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team as it took down the Alverno Inferno 10-0 for its third straight win Saturday afternoon at Warriors Soccer Field. Five different players scored in the game, including hat tricks from freshman Katelyn Bonilla (Fond du Lac, Wis.) and junior Kendra Schumacher (Little Chute, Wis.).

  • WLC raced out to a quick lead, scoring two goals in the first 11 minutes. Bonilla scored in the ninth minute, and sophomore Kayla Mitchell (Green Bay, Wis.) scored two minutes later on a crossing pass from Schumacher.
  • Schumacher added to the lead eight minutes later after dribbling through the defense and beating the goalkeeper to the near post.
  • The Warriors scored two more yet before halftime, with the goals coming just thirty seconds apart. Sophomore Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) and Schumacher made the lead 5-0 as the teams took a break.
  • The second half was a similar story for the Warriors, with Schumacher completing the hat trick in the 55th minute. Bonilla completed her hat trick with back-to-back goals in the 60th and 68th minutes to make the score 8-0.
  • Junior Gabriella Metten (Greenville, Wis.) and Mitchell added to the score later in the second half, as the Warriors extended the lead to 10.

  • Wisconsin Lutheran finished with 34 shots and 26 on target. Bonilla led the way with nine shots and six on goal.
  • Freshman Kayla Pagel (Kenosha, Wis.) stopped all three shots she faced, earning the shutout and her fourth win of the season.
  • WLC tallied 13 corner kicks, compared to just one for Alverno.
  • The Warriors 10 goals are tied for the fifth most in program history in a single game.
  • Schumacher, with three goals and a pair of assists in the game, extended her point streak to six consecutive games. She has seven goals and four assists over that span.
  • The Green and White won their ninth straight game over Alverno in the all-time series.

  • Goalkeeper Kenzie Bermudez finished with 16 saves after facing 26 shots.
