Five Score In NACC-Opening Rout Over Regents

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – Five different players found the back of the net, including two each from junior Kendra Schumacher (Little Chute, Wis.) and freshman Katelyn Bonilla (Fond du Lac, Wis.), as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season Wednesday after a 7-1 rout of the Rockford Regents in the conference opener inside Wedgbury Stadium.

  • The Warriors put a pair of shots on target and an additional off the crossbar in the opening nine-plus minutes of the match, but were held off the scoreboard.
  • Schumacher put WLC on the board in the 18th minute with her second goal of the season for a 1-0 lead on a shot from five yards away unassisted.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran went ahead 2-0 on sophomore Maggie Stebbins' (Beaver Dam, Wis.) first goal of the year from point-blank range in the 37th minute on an assist from junior Gabriella Metten (Greenville, Wis.). The score remained 2-0 in favor of the Green and White at halftime.
  • The Regents trimmed the deficit in half just 0:58 seconds into the second half on an Alexis Keener goal that was assisted by Jessivel Uribe.
  • WLC broke the game wide open with five goals over a 15-minute span. Sophomore Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) scored from 10 yards away off a pass over the defense from junior Lizzy Bauer (Kewaskum, Wis.) in the 65th minute.
  • Bonilla netted her first goal of the season in the 72nd minute on an assist from Carreno. Schumacher recorded her second strike of the game in the 75th minute unassisted for a 5-1 lead.
  • Bonilla also added her second of the game four minutes later and Metten capped off the scoring barrage in the 80th minute. Both goals were unassisted.

  • The Warriors finished with a season-high 32 shots, including 19 on target. Schumacher paved the way with eight shots while Carreno added six. Carreno and Metten also added a goal and an assist. 
  • WLC tallied 17 corner kicks, while holding Rockford to none.
  • Freshman Kayla Pagel (Kenosha, Wis.) picked up her first career win in the net in 90:00 minutes of action.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran, which improved to 11-0-0 against the Regents since 2000, is 1-0 in the NACC for the third straight season.

  • Alexis Keener tallied two shots and a goal to lead the Regents and Amelia Harper made 12 saves in the net.

  • The Warriors will make a second attempt at their home opener on Saturday when they host Dominican (7-1-0, 2-0-0 NACC) at 3:30 p.m. at Warriors Soccer Field. The Stars defeated IIT on Wednesday, 1-0. Live video will be available for the game at WLCSports.com.
