Early Goal Not Enough As Warriors Fall To Vikings

APPLETON, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team struck early in the second minute, but host Lawrence responded with a pair of second half goals to hand the Warriors a 2-1 defeat Wednesday night in non-conference action at the Banta Bowl.

  • The Warriors struck first early when Kendra Schumacher's (Little Chute, Wis.) second minute shot found the back of the net off a pass by Gabriella Metten (Greenville, Wis.) for her first netter of the season.
  • WLC junior goalkeeper Grace Asplin (Excelsior, Minn.) kept the Vikings off the board in the first half, tallying five saves.
  • Lawrence was able to tie the game in the 55th minute when Samantha Tolu's pass found the foot of Jackie Blake who fired the ball into the goal.
  • In the 71st minute, the Vikings took the lead when Blake scored her second goal of the game off a free kick for what proved to be the game winner.
  • The Warriors put a shot on frame shortly after, but it was saved by the LU keeper.


  • Schumacher and freshman Katelyn Bonilla (Fond du Lac, Wis.) accounted for four of the five shots for the Warriors, three of which were on goal.
  • Asplin accounted for eight saves in all 90:00 minutes for WLC.
  • WLC tallied three corner kicks, all coming in the second half.

  • Blake totaled a match-high seven shots for the Vikings, who ended with 23 as a team.
  • Sarah Yochem made two saves to earn the win in 90:00 minutes of action.
