WLC Drops Midweek Matchup At Marian

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team dropped its third straight game Wednesday night, falling to the host Marian Sabres 6-0 in a pivotal Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup at Smith Field.

  • The Sabres scored two goals within 0:19 seconds of each other in the 5th minute to take a quick 2-0 lead over the Warriors.
  • Marian, which had five different players find the back of the net in the first half, added three more tallies to its total in the opening half in the 22nd, 34th, and 45th minute for a 5-0 halftime lead.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran was limited to two first half shots, but could not put a shot on frame.
  • MU capped the scoring with the only goal of the second half in the 63rd minute on Alexis Peterson's second of the match.
  • Megan Henning (Grafton, Wis.) and Mady Hirsch (Jefferson, Wis.) placed a pair of shots on target in the 84th and 88th minute, but both were saved by the Sabres' keeper.

  • Helen Joyce (De Pere, Wis.) and Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) each totaled two shots to lead the Warriors, who had six for the game.
  • Rosanna Mazzulla (Melrose Park, Ill.) made four saves in 45 minutes, but suffered her fourth loss of the season.
  • The Warriors suffered their third straight defeat to slip to eighth in the NACC standings with two conference games left.

  • Peterson paced the Sabres with eight shots, three on goal, and two goals. Reilly Louko added a goal and two assists.
  • Amy Birner earned the win after posting a clean sheet in the first half for MU.
  • Marian mustered 24 shots, including 14 on frame.
