Raiders Slip Past Warriors At Home, 1-0

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) - The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback against the visiting MSOE Raiders at Warriors Soccer Field Saturday afternoon in a cross-town NACC showdown. The visitors scored in the 60th minute to break a scoreless draw and hand the Warriors their third straight defeat.

  • The Raiders threatened early in the contest, tallying two shots on goal in the opening five minutes of action, but Rosanna Mazzulla (Melrose Park, Ill.) was able to save both shots.
  • MSOE continued to apply pressure in the first half, tallying 13 shots, but failed to find the back of the net as Mazzulla stopped all nine shots on target in the opening half.
  • The visitors finally broke the scoreless tie in the 60' when Gracie Horton scored a breakaway goal to put MSOE up 1-0.
  • The Raiders nearly extended their lead in the 78' when Jill Ruark struck a shot over the keeper's head, but hit the crossbar and was cleared by the WLC defense.

  • Miriam Carreno (San Antonio, Texas) tallied the lone shot for WLC in the contest.
  • Mazzulla led the Warriors with nine saves, all coming in the first half.
  • Abby Vavra (Mukwonago, Wis.) suffered the loss in net, allowing one goal while making five saves in the second half.

  • Ruark led the Raiders with six shots, including five on target.
  • Horton registered the lone goal in the contest while Veronica Mangio tallied the assist.
  • MSOE, which won for the sixth straight time over WLC, out-shot the Warriors 21-1 and held a 15-0 advantage in shots on goal.
