Women's Soccer Blanked By Unbeaten Scarlet Hawks

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 setback against the NACC-leading and unbeaten Illinois Tech Scarlet Hawks Saturday night at Stuart Field. The Warriors saw their four-match winning streak come to an end as they were out-shot 17-6.

  • The Scarlet Hawks struck first in the 15' when Julie Taliana converted a penalty kick to put the hosts ahead 1-0.
  • IIT added another goal in the 22' from Jamie Griggs when she shot a ball that found the upper half of the goal, pushing the hosts' lead to 2-0.
  • Anna Delseith increased the IIT lead to 3-0 at the 53:45 mark, then Katei Heofgen added the final score for IIT in the 81', giving the hosts a 4-0 advantage.
  • WLC nearly scored in the 87' when Mady Hirsch (Jeffferson, Wis.) had a shot saved followed by a shot from Erika Yanke (Torrance, Calif.) that was also stopped by the IIT keeper.

  • Helen Joyce (De Pere, Wis.) led WLC with three shots while Hirsch and Yanke were the lone Warriors to register a shot on goal.
  • Rosanna Mazzulla (Melrose Park, Ill.) suffered just her second loss of the season in net, making three saves.

  • Heofgen led IIT with four shots, with three on frame and scored one goal.
  • Delseith added a goal and an assist for the hosts, while Taliana and Griggs also added goals.
  • Illinois Tech held a 17-6 advantage in the shot column, including an 8-2 advantage in shots on goal.
  • Catherine Klemp earned the win in goal without facing a shot during 45 minutes of action.
