Warriors Net Muskies In NACC Opener

PLYMOUTH, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team collected a 3-1 victory over the Lakeland Muskies in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener Wednesday night at Taylor Field. Helen Joyce (De Pere, Wis.) paced the Warriors with a brace and Kendra Schumacher (Little Chute, Wis.) recorded two assists.

  • The Warriors struck first in the 7' when Joyce collected a corner kick from Schumacher and beat the keeper, putting Wisconsin Lutheran ahead 1-0.
  • Dempsey O'Brien (West Allis, Wis.) doubled the visitors lead in the 13' when she lofted a shot over the keeper's head from 15 yards out. Schumacher aided with her second assist on the score.
  • The Muskies threatened before halftime, but Rosanna Mazzulla (Melrose Park, Ill.) made a save at the 40:55 mark to keep the hosts off the scoreboard in the first half.
  • Joyce found the back of the net for the second time in the contest in the 66', giving the Green and White a 3-0 advantage.
  • Three minutes after Joyce's netter, Lakeland got a goal back off of a 25-yard free kick, making the score 3-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Mazzulla tallied consecutive saves in the 72' and 73' minute to preserve the two-goal differential for the Warriors.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran was able to keep the ball in the Lakeland half for a majority of the final minutes to take the 3-1 triumph.

  • Joyce tallied two goals in the contest, giving her six on the season, and led WLC with three shots.
  • Schumacher took over the conference lead in assists with six after two on the night, while Kayla Mitchell (Green Bay, Wis.) attempted two shots.
  • Mazzulla collected her fourth win of the season in the net, making three saves in 90 minutes.
  • WLC held a 10-5 advantage in shots and a 10-0 margin in corner kicks.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran started conference play 1-0 for the second straight season. 

  • Rachel Hasko recorded the lone goal for the Muskies.
  • Stephanie Figueroa tallied two shots, both coming on goal.
  • Grace Daehling suffered the loss, making three saves.
