Women's Soccer Opens Season With Draw At Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. - Despite dominating the shot column 21-9, the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team settled for a 1-1 tie in double overtime with Beloit Friday afternoon in the 2014 season opener for both teams at Strong Complex Field.

The Warriors and Bucs played through a scoreless opening half even though WLC attempted nine shots opposed to just two for the hosts.

Five minutes into the second half, Brooke Harty (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 1-0 lead from a Meredith Wilson (Neenah, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) assist. Eleven minutes later in the 61st minute, Beloit's Tegan Rock netted the equalizer unassisted to tie the score at 1-1. That would be it for scoring the rest of the way as both teams played through the remaining 29 minutes and a pair of overtime frames without a tally. WLC again controlled the shot count in the second half 9-5 and 3-2 over both overtime sessions.

Mandy Schnell (Milwaukee, Wis./Greendale Martin Luther) and Heather Nielsen (Wildwood, Fla./Vilages) contributed 11 of the Warriors' 21 shot attempts with six and five, respectively. Rachel Sebald (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) made five saves during 120:00 minutes of action in net.

Wisconsin Lutheran (0-0-1) hosts Martin Luther (0-0-0) Sunday at 12 p.m. for its home opener at Warrior Soccer Field.
