Women's Soccer Falls Against First-Place Eagles

MILWAUKEE - The Edgewood Eagles scored a goal late in the first half and added an insurance goal late in the second as they edged the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team 2-0 Wednesday night at Warrior Field to remain atop the conference standings.

Brianna Franken broke the scoreless tie at the 38:45 mark of the first half, capitalizing on a pass from Ashley Pandow.

Edgewood controlled play for the majority of the half, firing off 13 shots while not allowing a shot from the Warriors. WLC goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made five saves in the frame.

In the second half, EC's Hailey Boyle netted an unassisted score with just under nine minutes to play to put the game out of reach for the Warriors. The Eagles continued to pressure in the second half, adding seven shots while allowing one WLC shot.

Gucinski made an additional three saves in the second half. Mandy Schnell (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) registered the Warriors' only shot, which was saved by Edgewood keeper Tori Fortney.

Jennifer Dailey and Jenna Mineau recorded four shots each for the Eagles (11-2-1, 7-0-0 NACC).

WLC (4-9-2, 2-3-2 NACC) begins a three-game road trip Sunday afternoon with a 3 p.m. kickoff at Concordia Chicago (9-2-3, 3-2-2 NACC).
