WLC, Dominican Battle To A Draw

MILWAUKEE - Dominican and the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's soccer team exchanged goals early in the second half but went scoreless the rest of the way in a 1-1 tie in double overtime at Warrior Field Tuesday night. WLC stands at 3-8-2 overall and 1-2-2 in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference competition. 

Dominican (0-8-1, 0-4-1 NACC) controlled the shot count 8-3 in a scoreless first half. Warriors goalkeeper Kate Gucinski (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) made three saves in the half. 

The Stars struck early in the second half on a header by Kelly Petty coming off of a corner kick in the 47th minute to briefly give Dominican a 1-0 lead.

Just under five minutes later, WLC played a ball into the box that was knocked into the back of the net by a Dominican defender for an own goal that tied the game 1-1.

Each team had several chances but did not score through the rest of regulation and two overtime periods. Dominican out-shot Wisconsin Lutheran 22-10. Gucinski finished with seven saves and Sara Stepanovich grabbed four saves for Dominican.

Maggie Smith (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) and Mandy Schnell (Milwaukee, Wis./Martin Luther) led the Warriors with three shots apiece. Petty attempted eight shots to pace the Stars. 

WLC (3-8-2, 1-2-2 NACC) hosts Alverno (5-5-0, 1-4-0 NACC) in a NACC contest Saturday at 1 p.m. at Warrior Field.
