OGLESBY, Ill. – Ellyn Mortell (Eden Prairie, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) finished sixth out of 24 players after firing a program-record 76 in Sunday's first round of the Deer Park Classic hosted by Cardinal Stritch at Deer Park Country Club. The Warriors finished fifth at the two-day event with an 813 after shooting rounds of 409 and 404, respectively.
Mortell carried a two-shot lead into Monday's final round after her program-record 76 Sunday on the par-71, 5,727-yard course. She finished sixth in the 24-player field with a 164 following a final round 88.
Jordan Fenney (Erin, Wis./Hartford) carded a 208 (110-98), lowering her second round score by 12 strokes from the first round. Ashley Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) also improved her score from day one and finished with a 217 (112-105). Rachael Wendt (Seymour, Wis./Seymour) and Katherine Seidler (St. Joseph, Mich./Michigan Lutheran) rounded out the scoring for WLC with a 224 and 226, respectively.
Cardinal Stritch's Perle Pondepeyre fired a two-round 154 (79-75) to take home meet medalist honors. Grand View topped the five-team field with a 660 (335-325).
The Warriors return to the links next Saturday and Sunday for the Clarke Fall Invitational at Eagle Ridge Golf Resort in Galena, Ill. Tee times both days are slated for 10 a.m.
