Mortell, Warriors Win Season-Opening Triangular

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Ellyn Mortell (Eden Prairie, Minn./St. Croix Lutheran) carded a 78 (+7) to top the 16-player field at the season-opening Lakeland Triangular and lead the Warriors to victory over host Lakeland and Alverno Saturday at Town & Country Golf Club.

Mortell's round of 78 on the par-71 course in the lowest recorded score in the history of the Warriors women's golf program.

Rachael Wendt (Seymour, Wis./Seymour) came in fifth with a 103 and Jordan Fenney (Erin, Wis./Hartford) and Ashley Miller (Cedarburg, Wis./Kettle Moraine Lutheran) tied for sixth with identical 105's. Becky Miller (Mazeppa, Minn./Zumbrota-Mazeppa) registered a 113 to round out the team scoring for WLC. Individually, Katherine Seidler (St. Joseph, Mich./Michigan Lutheran) fired a 110 to finish eighth.

The Warriors totaled a team score of 391, 15 strokes in front of host Lakeland.

WLC returns to action Sunday, September 7 when it will send players to both the Alverno Triangular and Marian Fall Invite.
