WLC Overcomes Turnovers For NACC-Opening Win

AURORA, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Senior Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) scored 15 points to lead three players in double figures and the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team overcame an early nine-point deficit for a 65-55 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference-opening win over Aurora Wednesday night inside Thornton Gymnasium.

  • The Warriors fell behind 9-0 early and the Spartans led 11-2 after forcing four turnovers in the first 3:14 of the game. WLC answered with a 12-0 run and had scoring contributions from three different players, including six from sophomore Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) to take a 14-13 lead into the second quarter.
  • WLC scored seven of the first eight points of the second quarter and held its largest lead of the game at 21-14 with 6:31 left in the second quarter. The Green and White held Aurora without a field goal for a stretch of 11:18. AU answered with a 7-0 run of its own to tie the score at 21-21, but the Warriors went into halftime with a 29-27 lead thanks to a pair of late three-pointers from sophomore Ally Gough (Horicon, Wis.).
  • The Spartans scored the first two points of the third quarter to knot the score at 29-29, but the Warriors responded with an 8-2 run for a six-point lead. Aurora answered with 7-0 run for its first lead of the quarter at 38-37. WLC knocked down a trio of three-pointers over the final 4:29 of the quarter for a 53-47 lead entering the fourth.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran started the fourth quarter with a 12-2 run and built a game-high 65-49 lead after baskets from Kelly Tramburg, junior Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.), and Mace. The Warriors were held scoreless over the final 4:29 of the final quarter, but limited the Spartans to just six points of their own the rest of the way.

  • Kelly Tramburg led three Warriors in double figures with 15 points, while Brug followed with 14 points and seven rebounds, and Mace finished with 12. Both Mace and sophomore Morgan Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) dished out four assists.
  • WLC shot 44.1 percent (26-for-59) from the floor, including 40.9 percent (9-for-22) from three-point range. Gough sunk three of the team's nine three-pointers to lead the way.
  • Despite 23 turnovers, Wisconsin Lutheran out-rebounded Aurora 37-33 and out-scored the hosts in second chance points, points in the paint, and bench points.
  • The Warriors won their eighth straight game over the Spartans and now lead the all-time series 23.5.
