Dowden, Brug Lead WLC In Wire-To-Wire Win Over Lakeland

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) poured in a game-high 26 points and Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) posted a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team over the visiting Lakeland Muskies 71-45 Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The Warriors never trailed in the contest and shot a season-best 50 percent from three-point land in the win.

  • The Warriors jumped out to a 6-3 lead early in the first quarter, and extended their lead to 11-7 after Dowden scored five straight points.
  • Dowden buried a triple with just under a minute remaining in the opening quarter, extending the WLC lead to 20-9, but the Muskies answered with two three-pointers of their own to cut the WLC lead to five points.
  • Dowden converted four of five free throws with no time on the first quarter clock putting the Warriors ahead 24-15 after one period.
  • Dowden connected again from deep, then Brug converted a layup to extend the Wisconsin Lutheran lead to 15 points with 4:45 remaining in the second quarter.
  • Following the Brug bucket, the Warriors scored six quick points to push their lead to 41-20, forcing Lakeland to take a timeout with 2:34 to play in the first half.
  • Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) buried a triple from the left wing and Brug converted a layup as WLC took a 46-24 advantage into the locker room at halftime, shooting 51.5 percent from the field and forcing 12 Lakeland turnovers.
  • The Muskies opened the second half with a 7-2 run, but a three-point play from Dowden put WLC back ahead by 20 points with just under five minutes remaining in the third.
  • After another basket from Brug, Lakeland scored the final four points of the third quarter to cut the WLC lead to 17 headed into the final 10 minutes of play.
  • Dowden converted a layup to open the fourth quarter, then Lexi Reinke (Bonduel, Wis.) buried a corner three to push the hosts lead to 22 points with seven minutes remaining.
  • Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) knocked down a transition three to increase the Warriors' lead to 27 points, then Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) connected on two triples of her own to close out the 71-45 victory.

  • Dowden led the Warriors with a game-high 26 points, tying her season high, while Brug added a career-high 15 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double.
  • Reinke added seven points and nine rebounds while Tramburg stuffed the stat sheet with seven points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field and connected on a season-best 50 percent (8-of-16) of its three-point attempts.
  • WLC controlled the backboards, out-rebounding the visitors 44-28 and owned a 28-12 advantage in points in the paint.
  • The Warriors held an opponent under 50 points for the 10th time this season. Their 45.6 points allowed per game ranks second among all levels of NCAA women's basketball.
  • The win also extended WLC's home court winning streak to 23 games. 

  • Amanda Majewski led Lakeland with 12 points and Megan Will added 10 points and seven rebounds.
  • The Muskies were held to 30.4 percent (14-of-46) shooting from the floor and just 29.4 percent (5-of-17) from downtown.
