Warriors Clamp Down On Sabres For Third Straight Win

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team defeated the Marian Sabres 73-31 Saturday afternoon inside Sadoff Gymnasium for its third straight win. The Warriors held the hosts to just 21.7 percent shooting and a season-low 31 points while inducing 29 turnovers.

  • Both teams struggled out of the gates as WLC held a 7-4 advantage with 2:15 remaining in the opening quarter, connecting on three of their first 13 attempts.
  • Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) scored five straight points and Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) converted a layup, giving the Warriors a 16-10 lead after one period of play.
  • Dowden scored the first four points of the second quarter, pushing the WLC lead to 20-10, then connected on a deep triple from the right wing, propelling the visitors to a 23-10 advantage with six minutes left in the second quarter.
  • Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) converted a layup, then Morgan Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) connected on a baseline jumper to push the WLC run to 11-0 to open the second quarter and increasing the Warriors' lead to 27-10 with 4:33 left in the half.
  • Morgan Tramburg scored five straight points, then Brug made back-to-back layups as the first half ended, sending the Warriors into the locker room with a 40-20 lead.
  • WLC continued to apply pressure to the hosts and used a 13-6 scoring advantage in the third quarter to take a 53-26 lead into the final quarter of play.
  • Lexi Reinke (Bonduel, Wis.) connected on a triple and Brug followed with a jumper that put WLC ahead 61-30 with just under seven minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Nikita Conroy (West Allis, Wis.) and Kennedy Elrod (Conifer, Colo.) converted layups, then Maria Murray (Watertown, Wis.) scored four points in the final two minutes of the contest to secure the 73-31 victory. 

  • Dowden paced WLC with a game-high 18 points while dishing out three assists and Brug added 10 points and six rebounds.
  • Morgan Tramburg chipped in nine points, while Reinke scored seven with four rebounds and four assists.
  • The Warriors shot 49.2 percent (31-of-63) from the floor and converted 66.7 percent (6-of-9) of their free throw attempts.
  • WLC forced 29 turnovers, including a season-high 18 steals, and converted those into 26 points while leading 15-0 in fastbreak points.
  • The Warriors out-scored Marian 36-10 on points in the paint and their bench out-scored the Sabres reserves 37-3.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran has won double-digit conference games for the 14th straight season.
  • WLC holds a 37-2 record against Marian since 2000 and has won the last 22 meetings.

  • Rachel Serchen led Marian with 10 points and five rebounds, while Paris Harris added eight points and eight boards.
  • Marian was held to 21.7 percent (10-of-46) shooting from the floor and committed 29 turnovers.

  • Following two straight road contests, the Warriors return home Wednesday when they host Lakeland for their lone game of the week.
