Women's Basketball Races Past Illinois Tech

CHICAGO, Ill. (WLCSports.com) - Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) scored a game-high 20 points and the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team tied a season-high with 13 three-pointers en route to an 85-35 win over Illinois Tech Thursday night inside the Keating Sports Center. It was the second straight game that Tramburg led all players in scoring.

  • The Warriors jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after back-to-back three-pointers from Maddie Cruz (New Berlin, Wis.) and Kelly Tramburg. Tramburg connected on her second three of the opening quarter at the 6:13 mark to give WLC a 13-4 lead before the Scarlet Hawks rattled off six straight to come within three. Wisconsin Lutheran closed the quarter on a 9-2 run for a 22-12 lead.
  • WLC scored the first five points of the second period and held the hosts without a field goal for nearly the entire second quarter. The Warriors used a 17-0 run during a 6:00 span in the quarter to take a 30-point lead before IIT netted its first bucket with 0:40 seconds left. The Green and White made four threes in the quarter to carry a 47-16 lead into halftime.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran used an 18-2 run in the third quarter to build a 50-point lead at 70-20. The Warriors allowed just eight points in the period and drained another four triples to carry a 70-24 advantage into the final quarter.
  • Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) scored the Warriors' first six points of the fourth quarter and Ashley Fritz (Middleton, Wis.) later extended the lead to a game-high 51 points on a layup with just over a minute left. Emily Frey (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored her fourth point of the quarter to give the Warriors the winning margin.

  • Kelly Tramburg led all scorers for the second straight game with 20 points on five three-pointers. Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) added 12 points on four triples.
  • Cruz, Brug, and Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) added eight points apiece as 12 players reached the scoring column.
  • Maddy Elrod (Conifer, Colo.) pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) added eight assists.
  • The Warriors shot 49.3 percent (33-for-67) from the floor and out-rebounded the Scarlet Hawks 37-31.
  • WLC, which scored at least 80 points for the third time this season, tied a season-high by making 13 three-pointers and turned the ball over a season-low six times.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran dominated the specialty stats, 29-6 in points off turnovers, 42-4 in bench points, and 14-0 in fastbreak points.

  • Meredith Williams and Shannon O'Donnell had 10 points each for the Scarlet Hawks, who were held to 28.3 percent (13-for-46) shooting.
  • IIT shot 80 percent (8-for-10) from the charity stripe, but had just six assists in the contest.

  • The Warriors wrap-up their brief two-game road swing Saturday at Marian. The Sabres (1-14, 1-9 NACC) won their first game of the season Tuesday at Illinois Tech, 70-55.
