Warriors Survive FDU’s Second-Half Push, Run Record To 9-0

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WLCSports.com) – Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) scored 13 points to lead four players in double figures and the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team survived a second-half comeback from FDU-Florham to defeat the Devils 58-49 Thursday night inside the McArthur Center. The Warriors improved their record to 9-0 and remain one of only 18 undefeated teams in NCAA Division III.

  • The Warriors faced their only deficit of the game at 2-0 2:37 into the game, but scored eight straight on buckets from Dowden, Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.), and Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.). WLC carried a 10-6 lead into the second quarter after holding the Devils to just 20 percent shooting and forcing six turnovers in the opening quarter.
  • FDU-Florham scored the first basket of the second quarter, but Wisconsin Lutheran went on a 13-0 run fueled by two three-pointers Lexi Reinke (Bonduel, Wis.) and another from Kelly Tramburg. The Warriors went into halftime ahead 28-13.
  • WLC opened up a game-high 17-point lead shortly after the second half started, but a 10-0 run by the Devils cut the lead to just seven at 34-27 with 5:20 left in the quarter. The Green and White went into the fourth quarter with a 38-32 lead.
  • FDU scored five straight to start the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to just one, but the Warriors responded with an 11-2 run to increase their lead back to 10. Maddy Elrod (Conifer, Colo.) netted seven of the Warriors' points during the stretch. The Devils brought the margin down to six in the quarter, but would get no closer as WLC walked away with the 58-49 win.

  • Dowden led four Warriors in double figures with 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists. Kelly Tramburg posted her first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Reinke and Maddy Elrod added 11 points and seven rebounds each.
  • The Warriors were held to a season-low 37.3 percent (22-for-59) shooting from the floor.
  • WLC out-rebounded FDU-Florham 41-34 and owned a 15-2 advantage in second-chance points thanks to 16 offensive rebounds.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran improved its overall record to 9-0 and remains just one of 18 teams with an undefeated record in NCAA Division III.

  • Cayla Staggers scored 19 points to lead two players in double figures for the Devils. Jennah Roman added 10 points.
  • FDU-Florham shot 38.3 percent (18-for-47) for the game and did not make a three-pointer on just three attempts. The Devils had just four assists.
