Warriors Tame Cougars In Weeknight #NACCtion

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Three players scored in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team defeated the visiting Concordia Chicago Cougars 74-38 Tuesday night inside the Recreation Complex. WLC held the visitors to just 26 percent shooting en route to its 20th straight home victory.

  • Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) opened the scoring for WLC, connecting on a triple from the top of the key, then Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) buried a triple of her own, giving the Warriors a 6-2 lead four minutes into the first quarter.
  • Dowden connected on another triple, then Lexi Reinke (Bonduel, Wis.) hit a jumper to push the Wisconsin Lutheran lead to 15-2, forcing CUC to call a timeout with 1:52 remaining in the opening period.
  • Tramburg knocked down her second triple of the half, extending the WLC lead to 23-8 with seven minutes to play in the second quarter, but the Cougars answered with five straight points to cut Wisconsin Lutheran's lead to 10.
  • Dowden connected on a three-pointer as the shot clock expired, then Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) knocked down a triple from the corner as the first half came to an end, sending the Warriors into the locker room with a 39-22 advantage at the half.
  • Tramburg scored the first points of the second half for WLC, then Maddie Cruz (New Berlin, Wis.) converted a layup and Jenna Mace (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) knocked down a triple to push the WLC lead to 23 points with four minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • Amanda Brug (Sturtevant, Wis.) scored four straight points to close out the third quarter, with Wisconsin Lutheran maintaining a 56-31 advantage.
  • Woodward and Tramburg connected on triples to open the fourth quarter, extending the WLC lead to 31 with 7:41 to play in the contest.
  • Woodward buried her fifth trifecta of the contest to give Wisconsin Lutheran a 70-35 advantage with 3:25 showing on the fourth quarter clock.
  • Taylor Beadles (Stevens Point, Wis.) converted a layup off an inbounds play and Wynonah Filla (Osseo, Wis.) hit a running hook shot to close out the contest, with WLC earning the 74-38 victory.

  • Dowden led the balanced WLC attack with 17 points while Woodward tied her career-high of 15 points on five triples.
  • Tramburg scored a season-high 14 points, while Brug added a career-best nine points and seven rebounds.
  • Reinke pulled down a game-high nine rebounds while adding three steals and two blocks.
  • The Warriors shot 45.8 percent (27-of-59) from the field and connected on 40.6 (13-of-32) of their three-point attempts.
  • WLC out-rebounded the Cougars 39-30 and forced 23 turnovers, while scoring 28 points off of takeaways.

  • Michaela Thornton paced Concordia Chicago with 11 points, while Annika Rae added eight and three rebounds.
  • CUC was held to 26 percent (13-of-50) shooting from the floor and converted 80 percent (8-of-10) of its free throw attempts.
