Warriors Clinch 10th Conference Title With Triumph Over Sabres

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – The Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team held the visiting Marian Sabres to a season-low 26 points en route to an 83-26 victory Wednesday night inside the Recreation Complex. The win secured the Warriors' 10th conference championship in program history.

  • The Warriors used a 13-2 run in the opening five minutes, and held a 15-4 advantage after the first quarter.
  • Caitlin Knueppel (Wauwatosa, Wis.) opened the second quarter with a corner three, then Jen Dowden (Bonduel, Wis.) scored seven straight points to push WLC's lead to 25-6 with eight minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Warriors continued to score, this time using a 17-3 run, capped off by a triple from Tierney Woodward (Poynette, Wis.) to push their lead to 42-9 with just under two minutes left in the first half.
  • Kelly Tramburg (Fall River, Wis.) and Woodward connected on back-to-back threes to close out the half, giving WLC a 48-11 lead at the break.
  • Coreana Carson (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored four straight points out of the break, then Knueppel buried another corner triple to increase the Warriors' lead to 44 with just under eight minutes remaining in the third quarter.
  • WLC out-scored the visitors 9-7 in the remaining minutes of the third period, holding a 64-18 advantage headed into the final quarter.
  • Abby Hackbarth (Lake Mills, Wis.) converted a three-point play and Wynonah Filla (Osseo, Wis.) knocked down two free throws to push WLC's lead to 73-24 with just under five minutes remaining in the contest.
  • Emily Frey (South Milwaukee, Wis.) stole the ball on the ensuing possession and converted the fast-break layup, followed by a layup from Taylor Beadles (Stevens Point, Wis.) that increased the Warriors' lead to 52 with just under two minutes to play.
  • Nikita Conroy (West Allis, Wis.) dished out two assists in the final two minutes of the contest, one to Katie Datka (Bayside, Wis.) and another to Beadles, as the Warriors iced the 83-26 victory.


  • Dowden led the way for WLC with 20 points while Knueppel added 14.
  • Woodward chipped in nine points, including three triples, while Carson and Tramburg added eight points and nine points, respectively.
  • 13 players sporting the Green and White found the scoring column in the contest. 
  • The Warriors shot 45.5 percent (30-of-66) from the floor and connected on 40.7 percent (11-of-27) of their three-point attempts.
  • WLC forced a season high 35 turnovers while only committing six, their second-lowest total of the season. Wisconsin Lutheran dominated points off turnovers, 46-1. 
  • 30 of WLC's 83 points came from its bench, and the Warriors out-scored the Sabres 36-8 in the paint.


  • Molly Magnus led the Sabres with seven points while Sarah Schultz added four points and eight rebounds.
  • The visitors shot 29.6 percent (8-of-27) form the floor and connected on 10 free throws in the contest.
