Post Play Sparks Warriors To Big Win Over Stars

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) and Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) posted a pair of double-doubles to lead the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team past Dominican, 72-41, Saturday afternoon at the Igini Sports Forum.

The Warriors led from the opening tip as they jumped out to a 7-1 lead and later used a 15-0 run to lead 22-6 with 10:36 left in the first half. The Stars closed within 12, but WLC built its largest lead of the half of 20 points, 36-16, at halftime.

WLC's 20-point halftime lead was due in large part to its 46.9 percent (15-for-32) shooting, while the Stars were held to just 19.4 percent (6-for-31). Schulz led all players in the opening period with 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Warriors kept their lead above 20 points for all but the opening 4:34 of the second half. WLC's largest lead of the game (31 points) came on its final basket of the game with 1:50 left to play. Wisconsin Lutheran shot 36.8 percent (14-for-38) in the second half, while the Stars improved their mark to 42.9 percent (12-for-28). Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) finished with 11 second-half points on a trio of three-pointers.

Schulz led the way with game highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season. Laete added 12 points and 11 boards for a double-double of her own. Hoft was the third Warrior to reach double figures with 14 points. Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) came off the bench to contribute eight points and eight rebounds. WLC out-scored DU 13-0 off its 19 turnovers and 44-24 on points in the paint.

Alyssa Hernandez scored 12 points and Haley Tyler added 11 for the Stars (0-16, 0-11 NACC).
