RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) scored a game-high 17 points to lead four players in double figures as the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team won its ninth straight game Wednesday, an 81-43 triumph over Concordia Chicago at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Warriors stormed out of the gates to take a 13-0 lead with just 3:48 gone by in the first half. The Cougars crept within six points less than three minutes later, but would get no closer the rest of the way. Sparked by a pair of 7-0 runs as well as another 8-0 run, WLC built its largest lead of the first half of 21 points (39-18) with 1:34 left before the halftime break.
Hoft finished the opening half with 11 points, while Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) added 10 for the Warriors, who shot 51.5 percent (17-for-33) from the field in the period. CUC was held to just 25 percent (9-for-36) shooting in the half.
WLC began the second half with two more scoring runs to blow the game open. A 9-2 run doubled the Warriors' lead to 56-28 with 11:29 on the clock. Another 18-4 run over 6:10 gave Wisconsin Lutheran a 74-38 lead with 3:11 left in the game. The Cougars scored just nine points over the final 10:16 of the contest.
Hoft's five three-pointers contributed to her game-best 17 points. Schulz notched her ninth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kelli Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) also added a double-double off the bench with 13 points and 12 boards. Christel Frey (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
The Warriors shot 47.8 percent for the game compared to Concordia Chicago's 26.9 percent. WLC's 53-35 rebounding advantage led to a 20-8 margin in second-chance points.
April Broska scored a team-high 16 points to lead the Cougars (0-14, 0-11 NACC).
Wisconsin Lutheran (10-3, 8-1 NACC) wraps up its brief two-game road trip with another visit to River Forest on Saturday.
