MILWAUKEE - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) posted her fourth straight double-double and fifth overall to propel the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to its third straight win in a 60-45 victory over Rockford Saturday at the Recreation Complex.
WLC (4-3, 3-1 NACC) slowly built a lead in the first half, bringing its advantage to double digits at the 10:18 mark of the half on a Christel Frey (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) layup to make the score 19-8. The Regents (3-5, 1-4 NACC) would come back to as close as 26-23 after an Erin Ryczek three with 2:31 remaining in the half, but the Warriors scored the next four points to enter halftime with a 30-23 lead.
Rockford responded with a 4-0 run in the first 90 seconds of the second half to trim its deficit to 30-27. The Regents continued to put pressure on the Warriors, with the score at 37-32 with 11:42 to play.
WLC began to put the game away with a 13-5 run over nearly six minutes of clock. A Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) layup with 2:32 to go in the game allowed the Warriors to match their largest lead at 55-40. WLC closed out with a 5-0 run to clinch the 60-45 victory.
Schulz stuffed the stat sheet with a game-high 19 points to go along with 14 rebounds, six blocked shots and three assists. Laete also posted a double-double, scoring 11 points and hauling in a career-high 18 boards. Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) sank four of her nine three-point attempts to finish with 12 points.
Lindsay Lengjak led the Regents with nine points and 15 rebounds. Jessica Bjerning also tallied nine points for Rockford.
The Warriors out-shot the Regents 36-23 percent and dominated the glass 55-42. WLC controlled points in the paint with a 32-18 advantage.
Wisconsin Lutheran (4-3, 3-1 NACC) will continue its four-game homestand on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game against non-conference foe Maranatha (4-3). Live audio, stats, and video will be available at wlcsports.com.
