AURORA, Ill. - Kristen Schulz (Safford, Ariz./Arizona Lutheran) scored 21 of her game- and career-high 27 points in the second half to propel the Wisconsin Lutheran College women's basketball team to a 71-59 win over Aurora Saturday at Thornton Gymnasium. Schulz added a game-high 11 rebounds and has recorded four double-doubles in six games this season.
WLC (3-3, 2-1 NACC) trailed by as many as eight in the first half before using a 14-2 run to take a 19-15 lead with 7:50 to go in the half. The teams exchanged leads for the remainder of the half as the Warriors took a 28-27 lead into the locker room.
Aurora (1-6, 0-3 NACC) took its final lead of the game at 34-32 with 18:50 remaining. The Warriors answered with a 26-9 run to take a game-high 15-point lead at 58-43 with 6:14 left. WLC out-scored Aurora 43-32 in the half and held the Spartans to 34 percent shooting.
Schulz was 9-for-11 from the field for her 21 points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds in the half. Christel Frey (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) scored nine points for WLC and Rachel Hoft (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) and Melanie Laete (Spokane, Wash./Evergreen Lutheran) chipped in with seven apiece. Melissa Klemm (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) dished out a team-high four assists.
Shannon Koski scored a team-high 21 for Aurora and Bethany Dorrington added 17.
The Warriors out-shot the Spartans 50-39 percent and out-rebounded them 42-27. WLC held a 26-16 advantage in points in the paint and a 16-8 edge in second chance points.
