MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – James Flegel, a name synonymous with Wisconsin Lutheran College Athletics for the past three decades, has been promoted to head coach of Warriors softball, Director of Athletics Skip Noon announced recently. Flegel becomes the eighth head coach in program history.
"WLC has always been home to me and my family," said Flegel. "I want to thank Rachel Kuehl for laying the groundwork for a successful program and Bill Curtis for building on that foundation. Our coaching staff's goal is to continue the tradition and be a contender in the NACC year-in and year-out."
Flegel has been associated with Wisconsin Lutheran softball for the past 17 seasons, the last seven as associate head coach and 10 prior as an assistant. A 1995 graduate of WLC with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, Flegel played basketball for the Warriors for four seasons (1989-1993) and later joined Skip Noon's coaching staff as an assistant for three years. He earned his Master of Science degree in educational psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2000.
"We are excited to have James as the next head softball coach at Wisconsin Lutheran College," said Noon. "As a WLC graduate, former assistant of mine, and longtime softball assistant, he's ready to lead the program into the future. It's comforting to know that the program remains in great hands."
