Mahsem Ties Hits Record As Warriors Sweep Muskies

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Karah Ritacco (Chicago, Ill.) collected six hits with three RBI and two runs over two games as the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team swept the visiting Lakeland Muskies Wednesday at Neumann Family Field. The Warriors tallied 11 hits in the opener for an 8-0 victory in six innings and then used 11 hits in the nightcap to take a 4-1 triumph. Abby Mahsem (South Milwaukee, Wis.) also tied the career hits record in the doubleheader sweep.

  • Gracie Wilson (Deerfield, Wis.) opened the game with a bunt single, then advanced to second after a sacrifice bunt. Mahsem ripped a single to left field, then Ritacco singled to right, scoring Mahsem and giving the Warriors a 1-0 lead.
  • Ritacco got in a rundown on the next pitch, allowing Mahsem to score from third base, pushing WLC's lead to 2-0 after one.
  • Wilson doubled in the bottom of the third inning and then Melissa Ericson (Lisle, Ill.) drove her in with a towering home run to center field, extending Wisconsin Lutheran's lead to 4-0.
  • Ritacco delivered another RBI single in the fifth inning, driving in Ericson who singled earlier in the inning. Ellen Davis (Greendale, Wis.) drove in another run with a bases-loaded groundout, giving the hosts a 6-0 advantage through five.
  • Aerin Moberg (Wheaton, Ill.) reached on a fielder's choice, then stole second and scored after a fielding error from the Muskies. Ritacco singled down the right field line to score Ericson, ending the game with the Warriors taking an 8-0 win in the opener.

  • The Warriors are back home Saturday when they host Concordia Chicago for Senior Day. The Cougars (19-14, 9-8 NACC) were swept by Carthage in non-conference action Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Neumann Family Field.
