LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College's Abby Mahsem (South Milwaukee, Wis.) has received Second Team All-Great Lakes Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), the organization announced Wednesday. Mahsem is the third player in program history to receive All-Region recognition from the NFCA.
Mahsem, the 2018 NACC Pitcher of the Year and First Team All-NACC selection, is the first player in program history to be tabbed conference Pitcher of the Year. The junior right-hander ranked in the top three in the NACC in six statistical categories, including leading the league with 169 strikeouts and a 2.05 earned run average. Her ERA and season strikeout total ranks first and third in program history, respectively. In 28 appearances in the circle, Mahsem tossed 18 complete games in 157.1 innings pitched, both good for second in the conference. She won 12 games in 21 starts and allowed three or fewer runs in 14 starts.
Mahsem joins Brittney Blazich (2014) and Michelle Shambeau (2008) as the program's only Second Team All-Region honorees.
The Warriors concluded their 2018 season with an overall record of 17-21 and 12-10 in the NACC. It was WLC's first appearance in the NACC Tournament since 2014.
