Regents Hold Off Warriors In Opener, Game Two Suspended

ROCKFORD, Ill. – The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team fell to Rockford 7-6 in game one of its NACC doubleheader before game two was suspended due to rain Friday afternoon at Smith Athletic Field.


  • Final Scores: Rockford 7, Wisconsin Lutheran 6; Wisconsin Lutheran 4, Rockford 4 (Suspended in Bottom 3rd) 
  • Records: Wisconsin Lutheran (12-24, 4-15 NACC), Rockford (7-28, 2-17 NACC) 
  • Location: Smith Athletic Field, Rockford, Ill.


  • Rockford started quickly out of the gate, scoring three runs on four hits in the first.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran got a run back in the third on Sadie Schmidt's (Kenosha, Wis./Tremper) RBI single to left that scored Alicia Barbian (Waterford, Wis./Waterford). 
  • The Regents pushed across runs in the fourth and the fifth, but the Warriors scored two runs on RBIs from Emily Held (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) and Schmidt to cut the lead to 5-3. 
  • WLC tied the contest in the sixth on a double by Tara Degl'lnnocenti (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) to score Niki Cottini (Plainfield, Ill./North) and Kaitlyn Robison (Andalusia, Ill./Rockridge). 
  • Stefaney Kenworthy homered to center to plate the winning runs for RU in the bottom of the frame.
  • The Warriors attempted a comeback in the seventh, as Cottini grounded out to score Schmidt for one run, but couldn't bring around runners on first and second and fell in game one 7-6.


  • Game two of the doubleheader was suspended due to rain in the bottom of the third inning with the score tied at 4-4 with one out and a runner on second. No word on if and when the game will be resumed.


  • Brittany Koss (Lake in the Hills, Ill./Huntley) and Robison each collected three hits in the opener for WLC. 
  • Degl'lnnocenti and Schmidt picked up two RBIs apiece.
  • The Regents were led by Lisa Blakeley-Snyder as she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran out-hit Rockford 15-13 but left 12 runners on base.
  • Schmidt was handed the loss in 6.0 innings of work allowing four earned runs.
  • Sarah Moritz picked up the win in the circle, after giving up four earned runs and 7.0 innings.


  • The Warriors conclude their 2015 season Sunday with a NACC doubleheader at Edgewood (15-23, 9-11 NACC). First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. at Ceniti Park in Verona. Live stats and video will be available at
