MILWAUKEE - Freshman Morgan O'Hanlon (Lowell, Ind./Lowell) hit a walk-off single in the seventh inning of game one of a doubleheader as the Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team split a non-conference twinbill with Cardinal Stritch Tuesday at Warrior Softball Field. The Warriors (9-7) took the first game 3-2 before suffering an 11-1 run-rule defeat in five innings in game two.
The Wolves (14-13) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of game one on Katie Herberg's run-scoring single. WLC answered in the bottom of the frame, tying the game on Kaitlyn Robison's (Andalusia, Ill./Rockridge) RBI infield single.
Warriors pitcher Kendra Thomas (Jenison/Mich./Jenison) and Wolves pitcher Tori Burke were locked in a pitcher's duel as the score remained tied going into the fifth. Stritch briefly broke the tie on Shannon Caliri's RBI base hit in the top of the fifth. However, WLC again came right back in the bottom of the inning, re-tying the contest on O'Hanlon's two-out RBI single to left.
In the bottom of the seventh, Mindy Schalinske (Burlington, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran), Robison, and Brittney Blazich (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) loaded the bases on singles before O'Hanlon delivered the game-winning single to center field.
Thomas (9-3) threw a complete game and limited the Wolves to two runs on nine hits, struck out five and walked none. O'Hanlon was 2-for-4 with two RBI, Robison was 2-for-2 with an RBI, and Blazich was 2-for-4.
Burke (4-7) allowed just two earned runs and struck out seven in 6.1 innings but took the loss. Rachel Odolski was 2-for-4 for Cardinal Stritch.
The Wolves jumped out to a 9-0 lead in game two. Odolski hit a run-scoring single and Caliri followed with a two-run single to center for a 3-0 lead in the second. Stritch added six runs in the third, including RBI doubles by Jill Andreoni and Emily Neitzel and a two-run double by Olivia Wenzel.
The Warriors' lone run came in the bottom of the third, as Jenny Rechlicz reached on an error, allowing Robison to score and cut the deficit to 9-1.
Wenzel and Gabi Palacios each knocked RBI singles in the fifth to cap the scoring. Wenzel finished 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the Wolves. Palacios, Andreoni, and Emily Rudkin chipped in with two hits apiece.
Caliri (5-1) allowed one unearned run over five innings for the win. She scattered six hits, struck out nine, and walked none.
Libby Larsen (Menasha, Wis./Menasha) (0-4) surrendered 11 runs in five innings and took the loss for WLC. Robison was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
