MILWAUKEE - The Wisconsin Lutheran College softball team earned its first doubleheader sweep of the season Sunday behind a potent offensive attack. Game one ended after 6.0 innings with the Warriors winning 12-3, followed by a 9-5 game two triumph.

WLC pounced on Inferno starter Erin Dulek early in game one, jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Emily Sievert (Mukwonago, Wis./Mukwonago) highlighted the inning with a two-run homer over the center field wall. Tara Degl'Innocenti (Lisle, Ill./Naperville North) collected a two-run home run of her own in the third inning to extend the Warriors' advantage to 6-0.

Alverno scored its first run of the game in the third, but couldn't inflict further damage, stranding two runners on base. In the fifth, Degl'Innocenti made history with one swing of the bat, launching another two-run homer to left field. Degl'Innocenti became the first player in program history to record a multi-home run game, and also gave the Warriors a team record three home run game.

The Inferno scored twice more in the fifth to trim their deficit to 8-3. Not to be outdone, Sievert promptly smacked a grand slam to join Degl'Innocenti as the only multi-home run players in program history. The Warriors' fourth home run of the game doubled the previous team record set on March 14, 2011.

Starter Kendra Thomas (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) encountered little resistance in the sixth to end the game after 6.0 innings. Thomas struck out five batters, allowing just two earned runs on her way to a 7-3 record. Sievert finished 3-for-3 with two runs and six RBI, tying a team record. Degl'Innocenti went 2-for-3, scoring three times and driving in four. Morgan O'Hanlon (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Kaitlyn Robison (Andalusia, Ill./Rockridge), and Alicia Barbian (Waterford, Wis./Waterford) each scored twice.

Dulek took the loss, allowing 16 hits and 12 earned runs in 6.0 innings. Ashleigh Sagat led the offense with a run and RBI on three hits.

Alverno got on the scoreboard first in game two, scoring once in the first for an early 1-0 lead. In the third, the Warriors resumed their run production with three trips across home plate. Barbian forced an error in the inning to allow two runners to score. WLC tacked on another pair of runs in the fourth to push its lead to 5-1.

The Inferno got one run back in the fifth from a Sagat RBI double to make the score 5-2. Degl'Innocenti ripped a two-run double to center in the sixth before coming around to score on another Sievert home run that gave the Warriors a seven-run, 9-2 advantage. Alverno began to mount a comeback in the seventh, scoring three times, but couldn't inch any closer as WLC emerged victorious 9-5.

Thomas moved to 8-3 after striking out five and surrendering four earned runs. Degl'Innocenti went 2-for-4 with a run and three RBI, while Sievert finished 1-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Brittney Blazich (Bristol, Wis./Westosha Central) and O'Hanlon scored two runs apiece.

Megan Rossi was charged with the loss for the Inferno (3-10, 0-4 NACC) after letting in nine runs in 7.0 innings. Sagat and Kristin Holub each drove in two runs.

The Warriors (8-6, 3-1 NACC) make their home debut Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Cardinal Stritch (13-12) at 3 p.m. at Warrior Softball Field.
