NEW ORLEANS, La. (WLCSports.com) - Wisconsin Lutheran College's Jonah Jahns (Germantown, Wis.) has earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Midwest Region honors for the 2018 outdoor track & field season, the organization announced Monday.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the region's top three relay teams. The regions used for this award – Atlantic, Central, Great Lakes, Mideast, Midwest, New England, South/Southeast, West – match those used during the cross country and indoor track & field season.
Jahns' top 400 Meter time of 48.05 seconds came May 5 at the NACC Outdoor Championships and is just 1.05 seconds behind the nation's leader. His time, which ranks third regionally and 18th nationally, was good for both a school and conference championship record in the event. The sophomore sprinter has posted four wins and a pair of runner-up finishes in the six 400 Meter events he has competed in this spring.
Jahns, who is seeded 17th overall in the 400 Meters at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, will race at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 25 in the prelims of the event. The three heat winners and the next six fastest times among the 20 event qualifiers will advance to Saturday's final at 1:10 p.m. Jahns is just the second athlete in program history to qualify for the national championships.
