MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Wisconsin Lutheran College sophomore men's track & field athlete Jonah Jahns (Germantown, Wis.) has qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships in La Crosse, the NCAA announced Saturday morning. The championships, hosted by UW-La Crosse, will take place May 24-26 at Roger Harring Stadium inside Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
Jahns, who is seeded 17th overall in the 400-meter dash, will race at 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 25 in the prelims of the event. The three heat winners and the next six fastest times among the 20 event qualifiers will advance to Saturday's final at 1:10 p.m.
Jahns' qualifying time of 48.05 seconds came May 5 at the NACC Outdoor Championships and is just 1.05 seconds behind the nation's leader. His time was good for both a school and conference championship record in the event. The sophomore sprinter has posted four wins and a pair of runner-up finishes in the six 400-meter events he has competed in this spring.
Jahns is the second athlete in program history and the first since 2009 to qualify for the national championships. Former Warrior Dominique Johnson qualified for both the 2009 indoor and outdoor championships in the triple jump.
