First-Half Goal Stands As Warriors Hold Off Regents

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – A first-half goal from junior Alex Rivera (Milwaukee, Wis.) was all the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team needed as it held on for a 1-0 shutout win over Rockford Saturday afternoon amidst rainy conditions at Warriors Soccer Field.

  • The Warriors scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute, as Rivera corralled a corner kick from sophomore Aedon Meurer (Waukesha, Wis.) and headed the ball into the lower right corner of the net. It was one of three shots on frame by the Warriors in the first half.
  • Junior goalkeeper Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla.) kept the game scoreless the rest of the half, stopping a Regents scoring chance in the 12th minute.
  • The second half featured a couple scoring chances for both sides, but Lehnen stopped a pair of shots and Rockford goalkeeper Francesco Martincig blocked two, including a penalty kick in the 77th minute.

  • WLC attempted 12 shots, along with six shots on goal. Sophomore Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) led the way with three and two, respectively.
  • Lehnen collected his fourth shutout of the season for the Warriors, stopping all three shots he faced.
  • Rivera's goal was his fourth of the season, while Meurer's assist was his fifth.
  • WLC tallied three corner kicks, compared to four for Rockford.

  • The Regents launched 14 shots, with three on target. Simeon Adesina led the team with four attempts.
  • Martincig stopped five of the six shots he faced in his 90:00 minutes in goal.
