Men’s Soccer Blasts Bucs In Home Opener

MILWAUKEE (WLCSports.com) – Sophomore Jason Cano (Delavan, Wis.) netted a hat trick, his fifth goal in just two games, as the Wisconsin Lutheran College men's soccer team eased to a 5-1 home-opening non-conference win over Beloit Sunday afternoon at Warriors Soccer Field.

  • Cano and the Warriors wasted little time scoring as the sophomore struck in the 10th minute, dribbling past two defenders and finishing past the Bucs' keeper for a 1-0 lead.
  • Less than a minute later, Cano chipped a shot from eight yards over the keeper on a pass from Alex Rivera (Milwaukee, Wis.) for a 2-0 lead.
  • In the 36th minute, Justin Kuffler (Moline, Ill.) headed a ball near post off a free kick just outside the box from Jacob Bruecker (Sheboygan, Wis.) for a 3-0 lead that carried into halftime.
  • The Buccaneers cracked the scoring column just 0:33 seconds into the second half when Drew Landoch scored unassisted.
  • Cano notched a hat trick in the 58th minute when he converted a penalty kick into the bottom left of the net for a three-goal margin. He was fouled in the box following a one-on-one breakaway with the keeper.
  • Rivera capped off the scoring for the Warriors in the 80th minute when his volley found the top left corner of the net.

  • Cano led the Warriors with six shots, including four on target, and three goals. It was his second career hat trick.
  • Rivera added a goal and an assist, and Kuffler finished off a goal from Bruecker.
  • WLC finished with 15 shots, including six of which were on target. The Green and White also had six corner kicks.
  • Erek Lehnen (Fort Myers, Fla.) made five saves in the net to record his second win of the season.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran won its fifth straight match over Beloit and improved 2-0-0 for the first time since 2012.

  • Three players tallied two shots each for Beloit, which totaled nine for the match. Drew Landoch netted the visitors' lone tally of the contest. Clark Burch-Woodard made one save during all 90:00 minutes in the net.
